I think it's really interesting that so much time was spent discussing the socks, personally, as I am still quite young, I go for a more kid-like appearance in some ways and wearing my socks up is definitely intentional in that way. I also think that a lot of the people I'm around that are my age like fun patterned socks with cartoon characters and stuff on them, so it's fun to show those off too. We just don't want to grow up as fast.

I am a complete high sock convert. I was the person wearing tiny liner socks, low ankle socks, going sockless - but there's something so delightfully retro about the look and I love it. I especially love it for a work out look - makes me feel like a real athlete (even though I couldn't be further from it). try it!

Diane Keaton has been wearing waistcoats since before she made Annie Hall. If you love an item make it part of your style signature and it does not matter if it is not being worn by everyone around you in years to come. I bought my third pair of fisherman sandals earlier this month after wearing the other 2 so much last year. They are practical, comfortable and stylish. Not sure if you can get Embassy London shoes in the US but they make some lovely shoes. I thought the pointy toe sling backs looked really ordinary, flimsy and a complete waste of money. I recently wore my blazer to Pilates over my workout gear. I only have 1 blazer (made from a jersey material) but love wearing it casually.

Having bunions makes pointy shoes impossible, sadly, but also thankfully. I hope Birkenstocks stay in style because I have been wearing them for 10 years and don’t plan to stop! I have a gen Z step kid who loves jnco jeans. I thought they were horrible when they were going out of fashion in the 90s but the gen z kids make them look pretty fabulous. Samantha Pleet came out with some rave inspired jnco esque pants and I want them but am a little too shy to wear them as a millennial.

Just a heads up on a head board. We have a king size. No way was I spending that, so I bought a cot mattress and covered it with material. It's about 6" thick, nice and padded. Plus I was able to change the look anytime I felt like it. Now we can afford one, my husband of 46+ years doesn't want to give this one up! We've had this for maybe 20 years.😊

I call gen z fashion: pastel marshmallow. Representing the care free, soft and secure the state of the world lacks. I appreciate the lighter makeup and monotone bronzer blush contour looks. I was never completely on board with full drag 2016. Meanwhile, the gen z proportions on garments and layering are just too much on my sense of line from ballet and other central meaningful style lines to me.

Yes they are unomfortable. Yes you trip in them. Often the leather will crease where the toe bends in order to walk. No, I no longer wear them. Life is too short to wear uncomfortable shoes.

I wear a blazer in place of a light coat in the spring and a fall. I pair my blazers with jeans. I think if I tried wearing it with trousers, button downs, or vests it would feel to corporate for my style. Maybe it's the combination of these items that would make you feel over dressed? As for socks, you should go for that one right away. If they go out of fashion or you don't love them for your style then you can still wear under pants. Kind of no way not to use socks.

Pointy shoes are reaaaaaally bad for foot ergonomics. They destroy your arches and can cause long term foot issues. Anything which has a narrow toe box does. You mentioned it yourself - they are not foot shaped, and feet are shaped so they can function. Obviously anyone can do whatever they want. Just wanted to put this information out there!

Tall socks don't roll into your shoes or down your leg, you can wear them with sleeker trainers but also with chunky sneakers, boots, Marie Jane's, moccasins, Ballet flats and never get blisters! Anywhere! AND if you don't like showing your legs too much/you feel kind of naked you can just layer some thighs underneath. They are the ultimate socks. No show socks are a pain and you need different lengths depending on footwear but high socks don't have that issue at all. And you have so many designs! Neutral, pastel, colourful patterned, with ruffles, with bows, with minimal embroidery. They can be harmonic with your outfit or a point of interest. They can be your pop of colour. The possibilities are endless!

The sock thing for me is basically a pendulum swing from all those years of pretending we weren’t wearing socks, and the ubiquity of “no-show” socks. I have been wanting to try leaning into this sock liberation with patterned socks combined with loafers. That somehow feels like a comfortable entry into this trend. The only issue I’m having is finding is that I can’t for the life of me find loafers that fit my extremely wide feet and don’t cause my heel to come out when I walk. I am exclusively wearing these Birkenstock-style clogs with a really high platform which keeps them from feeling too on-the-nose and reminiscent of my teens, so I’m thinking pairing the high socks with those instead. Of course it’s summer which is not ideal, but I’m really feeling it. It’s like that click moment you were talking about where a certain context kind of explains the trend to you. I don’t know when it happened, but I’m totally on board. 😊

As a 33 year old millennial who lived through the embarrassment of having socks that were too long and would actively roll my socks down over my foot to create a faux-ankle sock, I fully approved the long sock trend. I oddly like the look and is very practical at the end of the day. I can't count how many times I have had ankle socks roll into my shoes and to fix them. Note this is coming from someone who has size 10 feet and is tall so the longer socks might feel more proportional to the rest of my body and be part of why I like the way they look on me.

My feet happen to be triangle shaped. I have many pointy toed flats (and other shoes that I seldom wear). I think pointy toed flats typically look more stylish than a lot of other styles of flat shoes, particularly since I am not a fan of sandals or other open toed shoes.

Love the way you talk these things through… my 2 cents: Vest Tops - love the look, but I have been hesitant to invest in a pricy piece because it is so on trend right now. Pointy Shoes - I think pointed toes shoes go in and out so quickly that they are almost always ‘in’, but I have had miserably uncomfortable ones and some that are really comfortable. Blazers - feel the same way you do - classic, love them, but it hasn’t always been easy to incorporate in a casual lifestyle. High Socks - Ok, I love visible socks, always have, always will (super comfortable and lots of opportunity to express creativity), so it’s kind of funny to me that it’s a trend. To anyone on the fence, I say go for it. Fisherman Sandals - love them, don’t have a pair right now, but I want the GH Bass ones. They are classic, and yes I would even wear them with socks… with the right outfit.

I am circling around either a new Louboutin bag OR a new pair of Balenciaga shoes. I bought a very nice dress for a wedding that is coming up and I can either wear a black pair of shoes with a black purse or a pink pair of shoes with a pink purse. I have a black pair of Louboutin shoes and a Balenciaga pink purse, so with either option, I need the other item. I am loathed to wear mismatched couture. I’m off to Neiman Marcus today. I would give the fisherman sandals a miss for sure. I remember wearing them years ago and they leave a weird dirty pattern on your feet and I remember getting my toenails caught in the leather weaving sometimes. Yuck. I’m going to wear high socks and shorts on Thursday when I go to Disney. I wore them in the 80’s, so I think it is fun to see that one come around again. Also, the sweat in the closed toe flats will be real. Pointy is fine in a heel, but closed toe mules are a hard pass. The toe box is not good for summer, the open sling back is not good for winter. Also, no matter how well made they are, the toe will wrinkle and curl up after several wears and the wearer looks like an elf or a jester.

I’m gen z and I grew up wearing only low socks bc that’s what my parents would buy. I only wear tall socks now bc I always hateddd how low ones would slip under my heels! Pretty much everyone I talk to says the same thing. I think a lot of day-to-day gen z “trends” are just comfort. Like baggy pants instead of skinny jeans tbh oversized clothes in general and the boom of crocs and birks. Also ik low rise is controversial but w the baggy cuts it’s kinda seen as having more breathing room than high waisted pants tbh. The high socks and fisherman sandals are definitely cool. A lot of us are anti-feet which probably contributes to the death of flip flops and the rise of socks with sandals lol. As time passes maybe ankles are getting looped into that? Love ur vids and ur idea of fewer nicer things is something I’ve been applying as I move into my own place :’) ✌️

My thoughts on the socks are on and off. I tried, it kind of looks cute. I don’t want tann lines. I also don’t want gen z to approve of my style. I’m a proud older millennial. I do really dislike those short socks that are still a bit visible. I see how that looks dumb. Honestly I struggle wether or not to give in.

I have neat cute ankles and chunky calves my legs look so much better without socks just shoes, but, I get athlete's foot so easily snd socks helps prevent that occurring. So socks it is! I match them to my clothes and shoes combined (I have lots of both) and have socks in many patterns and colours. I dont personally pull them right up, I prefer to push them down so they wrinkle around my ankles.

High socks are a Gen Z thing? I feel so trendy, I picked that up from my mom as a kid in the 90s emulating leg warmers! I really like them with hiking type boots or rustic Chelsea boots. I just like to have a peek of silly color coming through breaking up my generally monochromatic palette. A flash of SpongeBob's eyes leering over the top of my boots is a nice contrast to the warm oranges and olives I usually sport. Gives me character 😅

RE the socks/sandals/gen z thing - there is definitely an "ugly" fashion renaissance happening. It's the idea that "are you really a fashion girl if you can't pull off ugly stuff." Athletic flats, mismatching (like gym shorts with a cute top and ballet flats or pattern clashing), "unflattering" silhouettes, crocs, skirts over pants, long jean shorts, more is more, etc. I think it's fun, even though I rarely incorporate it in to my own style haha.

    1. The vest will probably never be totally out of fashion. It just won’t be the “it” garment at some point. It also seems like something you could make. 2. Pointed toe shoes aren’t as comfortable, so they’re just for special occasions in my book. An affordable version is usually a good idea. 3. The oversized blazer is the fancy version of an oversized sweater. Seems like something that works well for you. 4. Hard pass on the socks. 5. Not sure about the sandals. I’ll stick with dansko and Birkenstocks.

I have been circling the drain on the adidas track pant thing, but I feel strongly like it’s just me being influenced and that it’s not actually going to fit into my style at all… I don’t like wearing synthetics and i actually hate all my workout clothes for that reason (which makes working out a struggle… none of it is cute but it’s very functional). However, I just found a pair of 40’s wool red pants with a big white stripe down the side and I’m hoping they scratch that itch! I love wearing vintage, especially 40s cotton things in the summertime, a little preppy, a little weird… the point of this is maybe to try a trend but find a thing that is your version of it, put it through your filter. I think it feels less like a flash in the pan and more like oh, that makes sense. Also socks are integral to my outfits and I’m glad the truth of their coolness is surfacing!! I’m 37 🤷🏻‍♀️ strongest feelings about good solid colors and a classic drawing-of-a-sock striped band with loafers. They’re just a little stupid and I love them.

No, I don't wear any pointy shoes anymore whatsoever. I switched over to barefeet shoes completely eversince I started prioritizing my foot health. It can be a challenge to find ones that are not ugly, but I think I managed quite well. Being a minimalist helps, and I basically have one pair of sneakers for the summer and one pair of boots for fall / winter / spring. One pair for running or working out. And two pairs of sandals. My feet have never been better, and it has eliminated a thing to spend money on all the time because I've stopped viewing shoes as accessoires / a collection.

Wore Robert Clergerie very pointed black leather shoes daily. The leather is so fine and soft; at least 30 years old. I never felt like I was going to trip or anything, they are some of the most comfortable shoes I've worn. Its an easy way to look and feel incredibly stylish. They are an exaggerated point; can't tell about the Jenni Kayne, but no, they won't be problematic at all. If they still fit, I'd still wear them. I keep them because they are treasures.

This is what I heard you decide: 1. Yes to the vest. Maybe you should get three, one in each of your basic colors. 2. No to the pointy shoes. Someone already said “don’t buy it on sale if you don’t like it well enough to pay full price.” 😉 3. No to the blazer. I think you like it in theory, but based on years of your own results, you aren’t into it for yourself. 4. No to the fisherman sandals, unless you’re tired of your Birks. I’ve heard you talk about flats, girl, and the answer has always been no. Of course you can change your mind! 😁 5. Gen Z socks? Try it out! See how you feel! It’s a cheap thrill. 😂 I think, in general, that you might settle into the new house before you commit to something new. Not for any reason other than this: by the time you finish unpacking and getting that new headboard and rug, you may not be the same Hannah you are today. Whatever you decide, you’ll be fabulous! 🥰🥰🥰
